In short, WiMAX is a higher capacity and higher quality technology designed to be deployed in a cellular fashion, similar to mobile phone networks.
Multiple Base Stations are deployed on rooftops or towers to provide wide area wireless coverage. Users can connect to this network through a range of devices, ranging from externally mounted antennas, desktop modems, through their laptop with a dongle or built in WiMAX, or from a handheld device.
